James W. Martin Sr. retired on December 31, 2005 after
28 years with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division.
James started his career with the IRS, while attending
the University of Arizona as a student co-op with the IRS Criminal
Investigation Division in Tucson Ariz. He became a Special Agent in 1980
and was assigned to the Tucson office and then reassigned to the Phoenix
district office. In 1985, James was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent
in Cheyenne Wyoming. After two years in Wyoming he applied for and was
selected for a Supervisory Special Agent position in the Atlanta
Field. He supervised a criminal investigation group in Atlanta for two
years and was promoted to manager of the Southeast Region Undercover
Program in the Southeast Regional office in Atlanta. In 1990, James was
promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the North and South
Carolina field office located in Greensboro, NC. While in North Carolina
he earned his Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at
Greensboro.
In 1995, he was promoted to Special Agent of Charge of
the Indiana Field Office and in 1999 he was promoted to Special Agent in
Charge of the Chicago Field Office. The Chicago field office was the 3rd
largest in the country. 1n 2003 James was re-assigned to head quarters in
Washington DC and served as the IRS Criminal Investigation Director of
Knowledge Management until his retirement.
